The Cross
The wooden cross mounted on the stone wall at the front of the sanctuary was made by Jerry Henson. He used the same design seen on the front of our regular bulletin, which was originally created by his wife, Carolyn. The Hensons have written that they intend the design of the Northridge cross to reflect this congregation’s commitment to mission. Northridge has a long history of sharing our faith with one another as well as with our greater community – our neighborhood, our city, and our world. For this reason, the design is intentionally wide and full. The center represents the community of believers and the Light, which we seek to understand. The pathways welcome people to come into the community from wherever they are. The open cross, combined with the symbol of illuminating light, represents our openness to the search for truth, and our Christian witness to the world in which we live.
