Teachers prepare children for participating in worship.  Kindergarten children begin learning about the sacraments of baptism & communion, our parts of worship and memorizing congregational responses.  First grade children begin attending worship.

Children will also be learning about ordinary people who were chosen by God to deliver God’s message.  Stories about Joseph, Moses, Aaron, Deborah, Elijah, Amos, Isaiah, Micah, Jeremiah, Esther and Zechariah will be the focus of our fall curriculum.  In the spring, the class will learn about messages from Jesus that we need today:  examples include “love your enemy,” “don’t worry,” and “don’t judge others.”

At the end of the year, first grade children receive a small hand carved cross.  This tradition was begun by Jess Spoonts who always role modeled “shining your light.”  Doug Gill learned from Jess’s example and continues the tradition of presenting hand carved crosses to our first graders.
