Outreach

Northridge gives 21% of its budget to missions. We support 24 denominational and ecumenical agencies and programs locally, regionally, nationally and internationally. The Mission Committee selects agencies and projects for both funds and volunteer efforts. We also help fund and organize youth and adult mission trips. Our “Two Pencils” Christmas project provides members with another opportunity for mission involvement.

Holiday Projects

Veterans Hospital

Northridge has participated for several years in a Thanksgiving project for veterans at the Dallas Veterans Hospital located in South Dallas. Members participate by signing up to fill individual gift bags with personal care items. When the collection of bags is completed, a group of Northridge members deliver the bags and visit with the veteran recipients.

Two Pencils

This annual Christmas project began after an adult mission trip to Juarez, Mexico. We arrived with school supply kits for 40 children, but were greeted by 108 eager children. Rather than leave some out, we opened the kits to find that we had enough pencils for each child to receive two. The impoverished children responded with choruses of gracias and tears of gratitude for two pencils to learn to write their names, to express their hopes, their ideas and their love. Thus was born the Two Pencils Christmas project. Each year, a printed catalog gives us the opportunity to honor someone at Christmas with a monetary gift to one or more of our Northridge-supported mission agencies. An envelope and explanation for gift giving to the honoree is provided along with two pencils.

Additional Projects

Northridge frequently has additional holiday projects. Some of these include the sale of items made by our Juarez friends and collections of supplies for special groups.
